I did not have any reviews to look at when I bought this model. I have owned it for one month and use it daily. I'm not big on narration but I do like lists, so here goes:

PRO'S
==Easy on
==great sound (includes two equalizers and other sound altering tools)
==Great battery life
==Small enough for portability, but not too small to find in pocket
==Navigation fairly easy(Know what problems can develop in finding songs, but hasn't been a big deal for me)
==Quick to load music, and easy to add playlists and more albums
CONS
==Shuffle feature seems to choose certain songs over others
==Easy to bump power on especially when in pocket

BOTTOM LINE
==There are better players with more features, but not this much space, and good sound for the money

I have always loved Sony products because of their price/quality vs. Ipod products, but I have been unable to find acessories (ie skins or bands) for this particular Series/model.

Got this player about a month ago, and while it seems very solidly put together, it doesn't seem like much thought was put into the "software" that runs on the player. Examples:
- fast forward and fast rewind feature is pathetic; holding down the button for a longer time doesn't increase the speed of the ff/fr search, it just continues to search at the same slow speed. Pathetically slow, for any track longer than a minute or two.
- When you're listening to a track, total track length isn't displayed, nor is a countdown to the end of the track. All that is shown is how much time has already passed on the track.
- And I'll echo another reviewer's gripe about not being able to create playlists on the fly.
Ridiculous shortcomings, in my opinion. No excuse for any of them.

On the plus side, I have to say that I like the option of searching through music as it's organized in folders on the device, rather than having to use the tag structure. It's nice to have both options available, which, as far as I know, is not an option on ipods.

I'd give this 4 or 5 stars if I had any confidence that Sony would issue a firmware update addressing the shortcomings described above, and others listed in other people's comments. It's well-priced, feels solid, looks flashy. But internal design is poor...

I have a Sony 2 GB Walkman that I literally beat on at the gym, travel, etc., and the unit still works without a hitch. I now wanted a unit with a bit more storage so I could stop using my phone to watch movies during air travel. I really liked the X series but couldn't justify the cost because the player is planned for use in the gym. This unit fit the bill and I'm really enjoying the sound and video. The video was a little tricky to get on the unit and actually work but I used a third party program and had no issues afterwards. I've also been using Sony earbuds for awhile and I purchased a new set to use with this player, the MDR EX500 model; the sound is incredible. I'm not an audiophile nor desire to be but have been purchasing high end equipment for over 30 years and I learned that the highest price doesn't guarantee the best product. For the price, I don't believe any other unit can beat this player. BTW, my kids have the IPOD Touch, Nano, Shuffle and IPOD Classic and I've used all of them. The closest IPOD that could match my requirements was the Nano but I prefer using Windows Explorer for my file management. I purchased my unit for about $90.00 and I been using everyday since I purchased about a week ago; first air travel trip with this player is next week and I preloaded 5 movies and about 600 songs and I still have over 8 GBs of free space.

I took one star off for lack of wifi because almost all electronics have this built in now; my Sony LCD TV, Blu-Ray player, etc. If wifi is no big deal for you and videos and music are your main purposes for purchasing this player, then I would easily give this unit a 5.

the last thing to buy is SONY MP3 any model.

First they are linked to WINDOWS MEDIA, so if for any reason you're with another player, the software don't recognize it, unless, you're configurate your entire system.
If you want to download MP3's from a DVD or a CD of your personnal collection, if WINDOWS didnééééééé,t get it properly, SONY wouldn't accept it, compare to some other reader where they are looking for compatibility before saying NO!

So please,think twice before doing it so.
