I am currently serving in the US Army in Iraq and wanted a durable, portable hard drive to back up my computer. I narrowed it down to the few brands that are "rugged". I bought it and after getting it, it looks like it will serve my needs perfectly. It is quiet and decently fast for transfer rates.

Warning: It does need two USB slots to run well. But it does run well.

I purchased this beautiful orange hard drive, but it was never recognized by my Mac, and then I read in online forums that LOTS of other people have had this problem. Whether it's the cable or something else, I still don't know, but the damn thing should be tested before it gets shipped out!

Received this hard drive as a present about a month ago. I was very excited since I'm a student who is constantly traveling from school to home, so I thought this would a practical drive. I tried plugging it into my powerbook g4, and my mac didn't recognize it at all. When I plugged it in without the extra power usb cord, it would make a strange beeping noice. My friend tried to connect it with his macbook pro, and still no recognition. Be very cautious about this product, because it seems like many customers are having the same issues.

I backed up nearly 100GB from my MacBook Pro to the LaCie. My first effort had the LaCie unexpectedly quit on me after one hour. My second effort completed the job in two hours. That's fine. Next day I worked on some files and loaded some images into my computer. I wanted the LaCie to backup the new file versions and additional images. The software only allows you to backup your entire hard drive. You can't simply update a modified file or two. I went to the LaCie website and downloaded a free assistant called Intego Backup Assistant. It flat out does not work. I made multiple attempts with multiple configurations and it just won't upload new or modified files. Presumably if you purchase the "pro" version you can schedule regular backups, but the free version is supposed to do this and doesn't.

I contacted tech support and was steered towards a third party application that would automatically backup files on a regular basis to keep them current. It cost $28. Other than that I was told that if I wanted to back up files I needed to select and drag them individually to the LaCie. So if I work on twenty files from twenty folders in one day, and upload images to an image library, I'm supposed to keep track of every file I've worked on, dig through all those files at the end of the day, and drag them individually to corresponding folders inside the LaCie? This is the only method of actually backing up files without purchasing a third party application or dedicating a two hour window towards backing up your entire hard drive - even if you only want to backup a handful of recently modified files! If I had known the software was this worthless, I don't think I'd have purchased this unit. The simple, no-hassles functionality that you expect from an item of this sort just isn't there.

Very disappointed. The hard drive only enable 9.99... not even 1G. I have to take them to an IT to check them for me.
All he said was "Somebody did not do the write job"
Now it has enable 232G remaining capacity after he did his IT job with it.
Please check items before sealing them. It can be frustrating.

They were received in very good condition. I wanted to order more different colors, beautiful, unless you improve, I will then proceed with more orders.
