I ordered an Iomega unit and Amazon said it was on stock, but I get an email from the actual seller saying that the item is back ordered, and that I have to wait. Needed the item fast so had to call the seller and get a substitute item which arrived much later than when my original order would have been recieved.
Not happy with Amazon on this purchase at all.
I just received the item in the mail. It did not come with the the usb cable. I called the company. I was told that they would send out a cable and a hard drive but would charge me another $59.99. I had to send the first item back. I told them I didn’t want another hard drive just the cable. Needless to say I just sent the item back and will go somewhere else to buy a hard drive. I am graduated design student. I had a Iomega portable hard drive I bought from the apple store and I stored EVERYTHING on it, including all my work, my portfolio, music, videos etc. It worked fine for about a year, and then all of a sudden it will not read!!! I tried on over 5 different computers, and the only option I get is to re-format it, which means everything will be GONE!!! I never dropped it , never spilled anything over it, it just happened mysteriously!!
I tried to contact Iomega and ask them for a solution, they said I will have to mail it it and let them inspect it. I didn’t end up doing it because I asked around and found out one of my friend has the same problem with an Iomega hard drive and it cost her almost a thousand dollars to restore it!! I was so sad and I still am, luckily I have a printed version of my work but my original files are GONE FOREVER!!!
I almost never write reviews, hopefully this one will help someone from falling into the same situation like my friend and I. NEVER EVER buy an Iomega and put your important files on it, ITS NOT SAVE!!!
it works OK for general stuff, but doesn’t transfer really large files and therefore doesn’t work well for things like video applications where files are large. Not so much a criticism of this unit, but of all USB drives. Honestly, I’d say that if you have Firewire capability, I’d make sure to get a drive that supports that, no matter what you might be doing…. Faster transfer rates and ability to move larger files around may come in handy.

First unit that I recieved was faulty…Iomega sent a replacement that did not function properly. I have been offered still another replacement. I declined the offer as I do not want another faulty unit. I wish to return the unit for refund; unfortunately Amazon does not offer a “Satisfaction Guarantee”. I am apparently “stuck” with this unit.
